A Bible Passage a Day..
What Jesus wants us to know right now..
Rest is so very important in the Kingdom of God. Our Father insists that we make time to rest our bodies and our minds. As Psalm 23:1-2 tells us: "Adonai is my shepherd..He has me lie down in grassy pastures, he leads me by quiet water." (Complete Jewish Bible) Physical rest is only half of it though. We need to make sure that we are also being spiritually renewed at the same time because if we are neglecting our physical bodies, we are most likely neglecting ourselves spiritually as well.
Here is the very next verse from Psalm 23: "he restores my inner person" (vs. 3). This requires an intimate and lengthy time spent with Him. Once we do though, the anointing flows and we are refreshed, empowered and walking in the way of the Kingdom.
Jesus modeled this perfectly for us. He would go up into the mountains at night to pray so that He could receive His spiritual rest and anointing - but I believe it was also to be alone so He could get good physical rest as well. His New Covenant directive was this: "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." Mark 6:31 As we can see, the New Covenant blessing is a double portion of grace: The verse in Mark tells us that when we receive our spiritual rest, it will come directly from Jesus Himself.
