Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,
for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting
their faith in him.
Lazarus and his sisters were close friends of Jesus and his disciples. Lazarus had gotten sick and after three days Jesus raised him from the dead and called him out of his tomb. That's what got people's attention and they believed because of it.
So as I read this, God asked me something: "Whatever happened to Lazarus?" The answer: Nothing! They didn't kill him. They killed Jesus. They killed the Promise but not the witness. But God's plan was to keep the witness alive and talking and talking and witnessing. Nothing and no one could touch Lazarus or keep him silent. The devil and his forces can say, plan and do whatever they want but it doesn't change God's plan. They can't touch any of us and I'm sure it drives them NUTS.
And by the way, the Promise they "killed" (Jesus) rose from the dead 3 days later too, just like Lazarus. It fulfilled God's promise and plan for every person on earth. So not one bit of the devil's plan worked - even when it was executed in the way he wanted it to be done.
So whenever it looks like the devil's plan is about to work, we'll keep praying. God will never take His hand away from any of us. There is always victory in God's plan!
