The Walk
When a Father deeply loves His children, He will make a way to spend as much time with them as possible. He will seek them out because He loves their company. He will take the time to walk with them when they need help or have made mistakes.
Genesis 3:8-9
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
When Adam and Eve sinned by eating the fruit from the tree, they knew that they were sinful and naked so they hid from the only source of love and grace that they had ever had – their Father. Yet the Father, knowing that they had sinned, still sought them out. Even though He had to mete out severe punishment, the Father has had a plan in place for total restoration and salvation from the very beginning.
John 8:10-12
Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
“No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
No one can condemn us if we walk away from that old life of sin because Jesus sealed our salvation.
Even better, those who follow in the footsteps of Jesus will never walk in darkness. We have the light in our lives permanently because of the power of Jesus.
John 19:17
“Carrying the cross all by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of a Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.”
Why did Jesus *carry* the cross to Calvary? It is because He had to walk through each and every one of our situations for us – carry them - to place the provision. What does this mean? It means that when we read about Him carrying the cross up to Calvary and walking every step up that hill, He's already walked through everything in your life for you - ahead of time – and then carried those things to the cross!
Every trial, horrible mistake, blunder, outright sin - even injustice and pain was walked out and walked through. Just for YOU and just for this very moment in time as you sit here. Jesus has already walked down your path on His way to the cross. He knows what you're going through and He already has a plan for healing, restoration, revival, affirmation and reclamation - whatever is needed! He knows. He knew when He was carrying that cross - before we were even born.
Romans 5:5
And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
When we match this verse with the revelation of the verse above, the true meaning of this verse stands out. Hope does not disappoint because He took every step and every step was ordered and planned out by the Father. It can seem like the time between every step is like a day or a year but He has been there before. His love has been lavished upon us and we are free to rest in the knowledge that everything has been taken care of in our lives because Jesus has already been there and resolved it. That is why Hope does not disappoint.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Before He died on the cross, He walked out every one of these things for us.
Wherever our foot sets in this life, Jesus has walked there before – on His way to the cross – and it’s because our Father loves us so much that He can’t bear to be separated from us by sin.
